Manchin and Rockefeller Announce $3.6 Million Improvement Grant for Yeager Airport

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Joe Manchin and Jay Rockefeller, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, today announced more than $3.6 million in federal funding for the Central West Virginia Regional Airport Authority to carry out ongoing infrastructure improvements at Yeager Airport.

“Investing in transportation infrastructure will keep our residents and travelers safe while also attracting new business and promoting economic growth,” Manchin said. “I am so pleased that West Virginia is receiving these funds to make the critical improvements at Yeager Airport that will help the facility operate as efficiently as possible.”

“It’s imperative that we continue investing in our critical infrastructure, and ongoing federal funding for our regional airports is a big part of that effort. Just as important is keeping West Virginians connected to the world,” said Rockefeller. “Yeager Airport serves as a gateway for businesses, jobs and tourism in our state. This award gives Yeager the ability to make updates and improvements that will benefit those traveling in and out of our state’s capital.”

These funds, awarded by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will be used to purchase an electric Preconditioned Air (PCA) system and gate electrification equipment through the Voluntary Airport Low Emissions (VALE) infrastructure program. The VALE program was established in 2004 by Vision 100 to encourage airport sponsors to implement clean technology projects that improve air quality.
