Manchin and Rockefeller Announced $4 Million for Higher Education Institutions in West Virginia

Funding will help the University of Charleston and West Virginia Wesleyan College provide quality education and better serve students in need

Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senators Joe Manchin and Jay Rockefeller today announced that the U.S. Department of Education has awarded a total of $4,000,000 through its Strengthening Institutes Program (SIP) to the University of Charleston and West Virginia Wesleyan College. The funds will be used to improve and strengthen their academic programs, institutional management, and financial stability in order to become self-sufficient and better serve students in need. 

“By providing our colleges and universities with the resources they need to administer quality and affordable education, we are investing in our future and leading our students to bright and successful careers,” said Senator Manchin. “With these grants, the University of Charleston and West Virginia Wesleyan College will be able to make critical improvements to their programs which will allow them to best serve our students, our communities and our state.”

“We owe it to our West Virginia students who work hard and want to attend college to create opportunities and provide resources that will allow them to achieve their goals and secure an education,” said Rockefeller. “This much-needed SIP grant funding will strengthen the ability of University of Charleston and West Virginia Wesleyan College to provide quality education to students in need.”

The individual awards are:

West Virginia Wesleyan College—$2,000,000
University of Charleston—$2,000,000
