Manchin Statement on Procter & Gamble Announcement of Facility That Will Create Hundreds of Permanent Jobs in WV

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Joe Manchin today released the following statement after learning Procter & Gamble will invest $500 million in a new manufacturing facility that is projected to create 700 permanent jobs and 1,000 temporary construction positions.

“It is great news for the residents of Berkeley County, the Eastern Panhandle and the entire state of West Virginia that Procter & Gamble plans to move forward with Project Independence, a vast manufacturing project that will create hundreds of new jobs, boost economic development and undoubtedly diversify the Mountain State’s economic landscape. Thanks to years of strategic investments, fiscally-responsible policies, and a well-trained, dedicated workforce, our state remains one of the most competitive, business-friendly states in the country.

“As Governor, I worked with the Legislature to lower taxes for businesses and residents alike, while also enhancing West Virginia’s business profile by fixing our workers’ comp system, improving our credit ratings and getting our financial house in order. Now, as United States Senator, I remain committed to enhancing our job climate so West Virginians have good paying jobs. I truly thank Procter & Gamble for pursuing this wonderful business venture in West Virginia and recognizing our state’s aptitude for economic growth and prosperity.”
