Manchin Statement on Iran Nuclear Agreement

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) today issued the following statement on the final nuclear agreement reached between Iran and the P5+1, which includes China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States, plus Germany.

“The American people are committed to preventing a nuclear-armed Iran, and this agreement is an opportunity to stop Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon. I believe that American strength is rooted in both military might and diplomacy, and I am pleased that we have given diplomacy a chance. However, we still need to look at the agreement in its entirety before passing judgment. I look forward to speaking with our military leaders, diplomats, as well as our partners in the region and the people of West Virginia to determine if this is a deal that makes America safer. Make no mistake though, if we approve this deal, I will work to ensure that any violation by Iran will be penalized swiftly and harshly by the United States and the rest of the world.”
