Manchin Continues His Second Week of ‘Standing Up For Common Sense’ Tour

Manchin to highlight immense policy challenges of 2012 during several major public events throughout the state

Washington, D.C. — Next week, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) will continue his 2-week, statewide tour of West Virginia focused on “Standing Up for Common Sense,” making stops in Ghent, Beckley, Sutton, Morgantown and Blacksville.

“We’ve had an overwhelming response everywhere we’ve been so far,” Senator Manchin said. “People are so eager to talk about the direction this country is headed and what they can do to stand up for common sense. In West Virginia, our people are our greatest resource – we know the dysfunction in Washington has to end, and I’m not surprised that so many West Virginians believe that commonsense ideas will put this country on a better path forward when it comes to creating jobs, putting our fiscal house in order, achieving energy independence and rebuilding America.”

Throughout this tour, Manchin has and will discuss the immense policy challenges ahead in 2012 and the need to stand up for commonsense ideas that will create jobs, boost the economy, achieve energy independence, protect seniors and rebuild America. The tour will feature a number of major public events, including town halls, coffee conversations and visits to schools and senior centers. Senator Manchin will also meet with business and labor leaders, seniors, families, students and West Virginians from all across the state to talk about how to stand together for commonsense and a brighter future for the nation.
