Manchin and Capito Announce More than $402K for WVU for Rural Communities & Sustainable Agriculture

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) today announced that $ 402,890 will be awarded to West Virginia University (WVU) from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Institute of Food and Agriculture to improve sustainable agriculture and help rural communities thrive.

“I am pleased to see this investment head to West Virginia University to support programs that help our rural communities in West Virginia make necessary advancements,” Senator Manchin said. “This funding is wonderful news for WVU and all of West Virginia. Through the WVU Extension Services program, WVU makes substantial investments in rural communities across our state. I applaud WVU for these investments and know they are of great benefit to our state.”

“Investing in rural communities and their development is crucial to our state’s future, and West Virginia University plays an important role in those efforts,” Senator Capito said. “As a member of the Appropriations Committee, I have worked to ensure WVU and others are able to continue and expand on their work to help rural West Virginia. That’s exactly what these additional resources will do, and I am happy to see them go to a deserving recipient like WVU.”
