Manchin and Rockefeller Announce Federal Funding for WV Volunteer Fire Departments

Washington, D.C.— U.S. Senators Joe Manchin and Jay Rockefeller today announced that $135,375 will be awarded to two West Virginia volunteer fire departments through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program. The funding will help volunteer fire departments in Wheeling and Keyser supply critically needed operations and safety equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources needed to protect their local communities.

“The dedicated volunteers at our local fire departments help protect the health and safety of the people of West Virginia, and my experience working with the volunteer rescue squad in Marion County has allowed me to appreciate their hard work firsthand,” Senator Manchin said. “These grants provide them with essential resources to respond to all types of emergencies across our state and continue to keep all of us safe.”

“Firefighters are on the front lines for our public safety,” said Rockefeller. “We need to make sure they have access to the best available safety equipment before they’re called to duty. These grants will help make communities throughout West Virginia safer by making sure our firefighters have everything they need to do their crucial, life-saving job. ”

The Sherrard Volunteer Fire Department in Wheeling will receive $39,900. The Fountain Volunteer Fire Company in Keyser will receive $95,475.
