Manchin and Rockefeller Announce Significant Funding Awards for Rural Health Centers Across West Virginia

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senators Joe Manchin and Jay Rockefeller today announced more than $3 million in federal funding for three community health centers, located in rural or underserved areas in West Virginia, to help with operational costs and to ensure continuity in providing preventive care services.

“It is incredibly important that all West Virginians, including those living in rural communities, have access to quality preventative and primary health care,” Manchin said. “With this funding, our health centers will be able to make necessary upgrades and improvements in order to provide the affordable and accessible health services that West Virginia’s families deserve.”

“Access to preventive and primary health care is critical to the overall health and well-being of all West Virginians, so it’s critical the health centers that serve these communities have the financial resources to continue serving the people who rely on them,” Rockefeller said. “Because of the important role community health centers have in our state, and their importance to the health of thousands of West Virginians, I’m so pleased to see that several funding awards are being directed to community health centers across West Virginia.”

The Health Center Cluster grant is a competitive grant created by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (“Recovery Act”). The grant program, through the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Federal Assistance Management, provides financial assistance to health centers that offer comprehensive primary and preventive health care services to underserved or rural areas.

The individual award amounts include:

• $1,024,778 to the Monongahela Valley Association of Health Centers in Fairmont, W.Va.
• $1,024,376 to the Pendleton Community Care in Franklin, W.Va.
• $1,015,068 to Womencare in Scott Depot, W.Va.
