Manchin Announces More Than $18 Million To Reclaim Abandoned Mine Lands Across West Virginia

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), Chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, announced West Virginia will receive $18,480,441 in Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 to reclaim abandoned mine lands (AML). This is in addition to the $140,751,000 FY 2022 investment from Senator Manchin’s bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act announced in February.

“I am thrilled that West Virginia will receive more than $18 million to reclaim abandoned mine lands across our state. Today’s announcement is a result of the collection of the AML reclamation fee, which I successfully fought to extend for an additional 13 years. This critical funding, along with the $140 million in new funding from my bipartisan infrastructure law, will open the doors for exciting new projects that’ll strengthen our economy, create new jobs and ensure the health and safety of our hardworking coal communities while reviving our land along the way. I look forward to seeing our state move quickly to ensure this investment builds a brighter future for West Virginia families,” Senator Manchin said.
