Manchin Applauds New Mission, 200 Jobs For Sugar Grove

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) applauded Highland Hospital for leasing the Sugar Grove facility in Pendleton County to be used for long-term recovery programs for substance use disorder.

“For years, we have worked at the local, state and federal levels to find a new mission for Sugar Grove and today, we see what we can achieve when we work together,” Senator Manchin said. “For our state and especially for the people and community of Sugar Grove, this commitment by Highland is great news. The Sugar Grove facility will serve an important purpose. By helping those struggling with substance use disorder, they can turn their lives around, bring their families back together, and make their communities stronger. Not only that, but this will create an additional 200 jobs in Pendleton County. I am so proud of the people I have worked with to reach this moment.”

Since 2013 when it was first announced that the Sugar Grove Naval Base would close, Senator Manchin has worked with local, state and federal officials to secure a strong path forward for the facility by identifying potential new tenants and job opportunities for West Virginians.
