Manchin Statement on Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher’s Death

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) released the following statement on the passing of Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher:

“Margaret Thatcher was such an important political figure of the 20th century, and her passing is an opportunity to reflect on how profoundly she changed the world,” Senator Manchin said. “As Prime Minister, she helped restore Great Britain’s economy by promoting capitalist principles and the value of the free market. Her remarkable strength and steadfast friendship with the United States contributed to victory in the Cold War and reinforced the bond of our two great countries. Her passing saddens Gayle and me and everyone who admired the ‘Iron Lady,’ but it also reminds us that true leadership comes from tenacity, drive and determination. Her legacy as a great leader will live on not only in Great Britain, but across America and around the world.”
