Manchin Urges West Virginia High School Students To Apply For 2021 Senate Youth Program

Charleston, WV – Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) urged interested high school juniors and seniors to apply for the U.S. Senate Youth Program Washington Week, which will take place virtually March 14th – 18th, 2021. Applications close November 13th, 2020. Interested students can apply at www.ussenateyouth.org.

“The U.S. Senate Youth Program is an incredible program for bright young Americans and I encourage interested West Virginia high school juniors and seniors to apply before November 13th. While this year’s program will be virtual due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the program will continue to provide the students with a unique educational experience as they learn about the inner workings of the U.S. Senate. I look forward to meeting the students chosen to represent the Mountain State for this prestigious program and I wish good luck to all those who apply,” said Senator Manchin.

The upcoming program will be an immersive online learning experience incorporating the key elements of the traditional program week in an exciting, interactive format. Each delegate will also receive the $10,000 undergraduate college scholarship in the name of the United States Senate, with encouragement to continue coursework in history, government and political science. The mission of this 59-year-old Senate sponsored program is to encourage America’s brightest young leaders to pursue careers in public service. Begun in 1962 by Senate Resolution 324, the USSYP provides a once-in-a-lifetime experience for students to learn about the history and procedures of the Senate and meet and interact with the highest-level elected and appointed officials in the federal government.
