Manchin Votes To Confirm Assistant Secretary Of Health Levine

Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), voted to confirm Dr. Rachel Levine as Assistant Secretary of Health for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

“This evening I voted to confirm Dr. Rachel Levine as Assistant Secretary of Health. During her tenure as Pennsylvania’s Secretary of Health, Dr. Levine worked tirelessly to support rural healthcare and to address the drug epidemic in the state, two issues West Virginians know all too well. Dr. Levine spearheaded the effort to establish opioid prescription guidelines, created opioid prescription education for medical students and expanded treatment options for individuals suffering from an overdose by making Naloxone more widely available. She also worked to save struggling rural hospitals in Pennsylvania by transforming them to meet community needs. For these reasons, I believe Dr. Levine is incredibly qualified to serve as Assistant Secretary of Health and I look forward to working with her to help our country recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, combat the drug epidemic and support rural healthcare in West Virginia.”
