Manchin Celebrates Opening of Canaan Shooting Range

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) celebrated today the opening of the Sporting Clay and Shooting Facility at the Canaan Valley State Park.

“Recreational shooting ranges and West Virginia state parks are a natural fit,” Senator Manchin said. “This is a wonderful new addition to Canaan Valley State Park and another great destination for families to spend their vacations in West Virginia. If you like outdoor activities, we’ve got camping, hiking, fishing, cross country and downhill skiing, leaf-peeping, wildlife, tubing and now Sporting Clays shooting. I encourage all sportsmen and their families and friends to visit this new facility.”

As Governor, Senator Manchin envisioned adding shooting ranges to West Virginia state parks that would complement other activities already offered, including golf, hiking, horseback riding, fishing, swimming and tubing. In addition to the Canaan facility, Senator Manchin created the blueprint to add the following sporting ranges across the state:

1. Monongalia County Rifle Range
2. Cacapon State Park Sporting Field
3. Kumbrabow State Forest Rifle Range
4. Dense Run Rifle Range (due to be completed this summer)
