Manchin Welcomes New Partners to the "I Hire Veterans" Initiative

Textron, Verizon and Teach for America pledge their commitment to hiring veterans by joining the "I Hire Veterans" initiative

Washington, D.C. – As co-founder of the Congressional Veterans Jobs Caucus, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin today announced the addition of three new partners to the Caucus’ “I Hire Veterans” initiative. Textron and Verizon Communications Inc. have joined as corporate partners and Teach for America has joined as an organizational partner. By joining as partners, Textron, Verizon and Teach for America signify that they are proud to make the commitment to hiring veterans or veterans’ family members as employees.

“As I’ve always said, if you want to help a vet, hire a vet – and do business with the folks who hire vets,” Senator Manchin said. “I am proud that the leaders at Textron, Verizon and Teach for America have made the decision to join our initiative, and I look forward to working with them, my colleagues in Congress and the organizations and companies across America who have committed to helping reduce our veterans’ high unemployment rate.”

Teach for America launched the You Served For America, Now Teach For America initiative in 2012 to bring more veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces in to the fight against educational inequity. This initiative aims to put the power of military veterans, military professionals transitioning out of active service, armed forces reservists and national guard personnel, and spouses of military professionals to work in our nation’s highest-need schools. They believe that the students who attend these schools will benefit greatly from veterans’ depth of experience, strength in leadership, and desire to continue to serve their country.
