ICYMI: Manchin Visits Greenbrier County Businesses

Charleston, WV – Yesterday, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) visited Greenbrier County to tour Schoolhouse Hotel, downtown White Sulphur Springs Businesses, WV Great Barrel Company and Smooth Ambler.

“This visit was a valuable opportunity for me to see firsthand the exciting developments underway in Greenbrier County. Greenbrier County has always been a hospitality hub of West Virginia and the addition of Schoolhouse Hotel, the bustling businesses in downtown White Sulphur Springs, WV Great Barrel Company and Smooth Ambler only add to the appeal of Greenbrier County,” said Senator Manchin. “I’m proud of these entrepreneurial West Virginians and will continue doing everything I can to ensure their businesses thrive.”

“Since May 2019, White Sulphur Springs Main Street has redeveloped a full city block, retained an existing business and attracted 8 additional businesses to the area, in addition to preserving the 110-year-old building that will house the Schoolhouse Hotel. We appreciate Senator Manchin’s strong support for our CDFI Fund applications and our efforts to grow the White Sulphur Springs tourism economy,” said Charlie Hammerman, President and CEO, Disability Opportunity Fund.

“We are thrilled that Senator Manchin is visiting our manufacturing facility and we appreciate his commitment to the working folks of West Virginia. The support and compassion he showed for our little town after the 2016 floods lifted our spirits, and the six years that have followed our community has been transformed. Created in the aftermath of the floods, the West Virginia Great Barrel Company now employs over 150 hardworking West Virginians in our manufacturing facility and sawmill. At a time when West Virginia leads the nation in economic growth, the Greenbrier Valley is contributing mightily to that growth. It is great to know that Senator Manchin is keeping his finger on the pulse of our community and continuing to support us as we move forward,” said Thomas Crabtree, Founder and Managing Member of The West Virginia Great Barrel Company.

“We were thrilled to be able to share with Senator Manchin and his team the great growth Smooth Ambler has had over the last 12+ years. The Senator was one of our very first supporters and continues to be a champion of great West Virginia business and West Virginia whiskey,” said John Little, Founder of Smooth Ambler Spirits.

“We’re so pleased to welcome Senator Manchin to the Greenbrier Valley, where we are on a roll. The tourism and outdoor recreation economy is booming here in the wake of the 2016 floods, thanks to a community that came together to rebuild. And we’re rebuilding stronger than ever,” said State Senator Stephen Baldwin who joined the tours.
