Manchin, Capito Announce Support For West Virginia Farmers, Ranchers From USDA

Washington, DC – U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $99,286 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to provide outreach and technical assistance to historically underserved farmers and ranchers. Specifically, this funding will support women within West Virginia’s agriculture sector and provide field-day workshops that will equip participants with skills, training, and hands-on experience.

“West Virginia’s agriculture industry plays a critical role in our economy, and 98% of our farms are small and family owned. This funding from USDA is great news for the Mountain State and will support training workshops to help women in our agriculture industry learn more about loans and other grant programs that can often serve as lifelines for our small, family owned farms. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue to advocate for funding to support West Virginia’s growing agriculture industry,” Senator Manchin said.

“There is such great and growing prospect within West Virginia’s agricultural economy, and this investment will play a big role in expanding our workforce. As the first woman elected to the U.S. Senate from West Virginia, I will continue to make sure that women in our state have the opportunity to pursue any career they choose,” Senator Capito said.
