Manchin Statement On Government Shutdown

Charleston, WV – U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) today released the following statement on the government shutdown.

“Now that the President has taken the national emergency declaration off of the table, it’s time for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to bring up the House passed appropriations bills that would finally reopen government. As an equal branch of government we have the authority to override the President’s veto, if that’s what he chooses to do. It’s time for Congress to stop cowering to the executive branch and stop taking West Virginia livelihoods hostage. This government shutdown is a manufactured political stunt that is hurting West Virginia, our economy and our national discourse. We cannot continue to govern in this shameful and embarrassing way.”
