Manchin, Rockefeller, Rahall Announce DOT Funding for Logan County Airport

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Joe Manchin and Jay Rockefeller along with Rep. Nick Rahall (all D-W.Va.), Tuesday announced Logan County Airport has been awarded $200,000 by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to install weather reporting equipment.

“I am pleased that the Logan County Airport will receive critical funding to upgrade its weather information system in order for our state to remain competitive, attract new jobs and provide the safest and most reliable transportation available,” said Manchin. “Quality infrastructure is not only important to promote economic opportunities, but it is vital for the safety of our residents and travelers. This announcement is good news for not only Logan County, but across West Virginia.”

“Investing in our regional airports and transportation system will attract new businesses and job opportunities and strengthen our local economy,” said Rahall, top Democrat on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. “This funding will not only increase air passenger safety and help keep our airport operating when Mother Nature has decided not to cooperate with our travel plans it is a down payment on our region’s economic future.”

“Having ongoing weather observation and emergency preparedness services are so important for our airports tasked with keeping passengers safe while they travel,” said Rockefeller, Chairman of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee. “Making sure the Logan County Airport has the equipment it needs to properly follow weather patterns and developments will enhance the overall safety operations of this airport and the West Virginians it serves.”

The federal funding awarded to the Logan County Airport Authority was made available through the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).  This grant will be used to install an automatic weather observing system (AWOS A-V) to enhance the safety and efficiency of aircraft operations at the airport by providing accurate, current, and site-specific weather information.
